gingerbread man the uk’s largest edible gingerbread man was unveiled at sainsbury’s in newport recently to raise money for comic relief. we worked with russel beck studios to create the 15ft tall replica of the supermarket’s 'mr red nose gingerbread'. we worked out the scale and structural support, and a team of bakers prepared the form and decoration, which included eyes, nose and mouth made out of coloured chocolate! shoal prototype ii the prototype leaf, built by sorba in the netherlands, has now been erected beside the royal albert dock. a team from packman lucas and the fabricators, littlehampton welding, installed the sculpture so the design team could get a feel for how it moves in the wind. the final installation will consist of these 100 leaves, supported on steel masts along the roadside through the centre of stratford, ready in time to greet the visitors to next years 2012 olympic games. facit - bower house packman lucas has been working on a self-contained tree house apartment; our second project with facit. the project is currently on-site, under construction by bowerhouse construction in east harptree near bristol. we developed a series of inclined larch poles, forming rigid pyramidal supports for a timber grillage. this provides a platform for the facit building system to sit on, 3.5 metres above the ground. the larch frame for the first stage of the project was recently completed and is looking good! eaton centre, toronto the prototyping was recently completed for a light installation in the eaton centre, toronto, canada. the main installation, designed by packman lucas and united visual artists, will consist of 83 ‘prisms’ supported on wire rigging from the eaves of the barrel vaulted roof. these prisms are filled with fully programmable leds to create a huge variety of light patterns down the hall. the prototyping was deemed a huge success and the main installation will be installed before the end of 2011 by the fabricators, lumid. facit - bower house work has recently been completed on the semi prefab tree house, facits bower house. bower house is located in the grounds of a grade ii listed english heritage building; harptree court. the client decided to expand the business by creating a distinctive outdoor space for guests. harptree court is an award winning country house bed and breakfast, now with an added tree house guest room available. atelier house we have designed a very modern private residence in barbados, which is nearing completion. the frame of this building is part reinforced concrete, and part reinforced hollow block. this makes the building naturally robust, allowing us to achieve the required earthquake resisting performance, while maintaining an open plan living space. facit - tring facit have completed their first project where the superstructure timber cassette system has been fully manufactured onsite. the cnc machine was kept in a shipping container to allow programming, cutting and the building of modular components to take place on the plot itself. founded on a fast screw pi
